Stress is in the Air for Many Seniors
Recently Seniors have either been nerve wracked waiting for their admissions decision to colleges they applied to or celebrating as they receive acceptance letters to their dream schools. Regardless of the cloud of emotions your peers may be experiencing, it has not gone unnoticed. It seems all Seniors can talk about is the anxiousness of waiting for an email that shall either open or close doors for them or the exciting opportunities and plethora of new experiences awaiting them as they commit to a University. However, the constant posting of acceptance letters on social media and group discussions of who got in where are undeniably well deserved and quite understandable after the four years of stress, hard work, and sleepless nights that these students have endured. This emotional time of the year is always exciting as it begins to form a sense of understanding and acceptance in students as they recognize their high school years are coming to an end. Students are given until May 1st to either commit or decline a Universities admission decision, known as their Statement of Intent to Register or SIR for short. From the point of applying to a campus, students are more than welcome to visit during Open House events in order to get a feel for the type of environment and atmosphere they will encounter as a student there. These events are meant to help students envision their life at that specific school for the next four years and ultimately make it easier for them to commit to the University. So as you continue to hear fellow students ramble on and on about acceptance, denial, and even waitlisted letters, congratulate them for getting thus far, shush them for being overly obsessive over their future, or ask them for some tips on how to survive Senior year and it's glorious pool of stress. But no worries, the semi-annoying and extensively worrisome conversations about admission decisions will soon come to an end as Senior students start to make their final decisions and commit to their future college of choice. For now, just sit through the discussions and reminisce on old childhood memories when life was stress free and you had zero responsibilities, those sure were the days.
