Inside Look at the Newspaper Club

Interested in reporting news and keeping up to date with Soledad High and its communities latest activities? Aztec Daily would like to bring you an inside look at the club that keeps the Newspaper running and its dedicated members. After the school newspaper went on hiatus for three years, students decided to re-establish the paper. Utilizing Soledad High’s student access to technology and appealing to our generations fondness of it, the newspaper was made digital so that access to it would be convenient for everyone. In order to keep ‘Aztec Daily’ alive and running, members of the Newspaper Club work every week in creating new articles following any events on campus, in the community, and around the world. Once joined, students are given the option to enter any of the five departments in the club. The five departments include News, Campus Life, Sports, Opinions/Reviews, and Multimedia. The ‘News’ department is in charge of reporting any important news about Soledad High, the community, and any worldwide news they believe will interest students. ‘Campus Life’ focuses on events occurring at school and works to keep the student body updated on what clubs and organizations are up to. The self-explanatory ‘Sports’ department follows Soledad Athletics throughout all their sport seasons, bringing recognition to our student-athletes. Members in ‘Opinions/Reviews’ share their personal beliefs on a number of topics and entertainment while the ‘Multimedia’ department works to bring their articles to life through the concepts of visual media. While a number of students do decide to commit to more than one department, most try to focus on only one. At the beginning of every week, the club President and Vice-President send out a schedule that includes every department and an idea of the stories they should be covering. This helps keep the newspaper updated by ensuring that the journalists of the club produce fresh content every week as they follow the events unraveling across campus and the community. In order to prevent anyone from getting overwhelmed, every department works together and evenly distributes their assigned stories. Besides giving students a voice, the Newspaper Club strives to bring recognition to all the hardworking students that go above and beyond what is expected. The club is also committed to highlighting all events and extracurricular activities that occur on and off campus as well as try and keep students up to date with their community. The Newspaper Club is open to all students at Soledad High and does not have a cut off date to join. The club encourages any student that enjoys writing, keeping up to date with current events, or would simply like to bring recognition to the student body’s hard work to consider joining. Students with any type of photography skills are also welcomed as the club does need photographers to cover events. If you are interested but are still unsure of how to join or are unclear with any information, feel free to speak to the club Advisor, President or Vice-President. The Newspaper Club meets every Friday during lunch in Mr. Graham’s, room 403. Advisor: Mr. Graham President: Kimberly Perez Vice-President: LiLiana Hazel
