Skills USA Advances to State Competition
Our SkillsUSA chapter had the opportunity to travel down to Paso Robles High School on February 4 for their annual SkillsUSA regional competition. Our members used their many skills to demonstrate specific procedures for various occupational fields ranging anywhere from cabinet making to culinary arts. Unlike most clubs and organizations at the high school, SkillsUSA does not focus on one specific field of interest, but instead offers a plethora of occupational job categories that directly correlate to a specific skill. Performing such tasks takes time, preparation, and communication with one another to ensure that they are ready to present their abilities amongst the rest of the other SkillsUSA chapters.
This past regional SkillsUSA competition, Soledad brought back an outstanding 13 medals. There, they earned 5 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals. The medalist were:
Gold Medalist in Prepared Speech, Maribel Ramirez
Gold Medalist in Extemporaneous Speech, Alyssa Plascencia

Our competitors will now be heading to San Diego for their state competition. Advancing, they will now be tasked with more rigorous and critical scoring in the skill that they will be competing.
With everyone's support for the club, they’ll be able come back home from their SkillsUSA state conference with more medals and a possible advancement to nationals.
SkillsUSA will continue to provide our Regional Occupational Program (ROP) and our Career Technical Education (CTE) students ways to build their leadership and technical skills so that they implement them into their current or future career. They are champions at work, and will work to bring back the gold and represent our Soledad community.
