Club Overview: MESA, MESA Day and Regionals
Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) has a proven track record in producing graduates within the field of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The MESA program assists K-12 students in their pursuit of STEM based college degrees. Support is offered in the form of advisement, fundraising, competition, awards, community service, field trips, and career guidance. Any student wanting to participate and learn more about hands-on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics activities is encouraged to become involved with MESA.
There is always an annual event held at the UC Santa Cruz Jack Baskin School of Engineering that brings hundreds of students to campus to compete against their peers in a variety of STEM events, from balsawood bridges and model-bisected hearts to speeches and team math quest. Working with MESA advisors and industry volunteers, students work throughout the academic year on curricula and hands-on projects that reinforce California State Math and Science Standards and support college preparation. The MESA Day Preliminary contests are always held on Saturdays in March. The MESA Day Regional contests have also tentatively been scheduled on Saturdays in April. Below are the specific competitions that take place during MESA Day competitions. Please note that while different grade levels may compete in the same competition, each grade level will have its own unique set of rules and curricula. Disqualifications are given to those participants who do not follow their grade specific competition rules.
