Teacher of the Week: Mr. Kingston
This week’s teacher of the week is Mr. Kingston. You may know Kingston from taking one of his various science classes such as AP Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, or Physics. Last year, Mr. Kingston also taught Physics and the recently retired MESA class. Due to the loss of the MESA class, he now is the advisor of the MESA club. We wanted to recognize Mr. Kingston for his great teaching, amazing connection with his students and dedication to Soledad High. We decided to sit down and interview Mr. Kingston to give you an insight of what he is really like.

AD: Where did you go to study? What led you to study education?
Mr. K: I studied at Chico and majored in Biology.I got my MBS at SF state. I have a Masters of Education in University of Phoenix. I like the learning process and showing others how to learn, especially high school students.
AD: What motivated you to be a teacher?
Mr. K: I enjoy being around high school students. I like to share my life experiences to others. Having the summer off offers me more opportunities to take on other jobs.I help people manage money and do financial planning
AD: What brought you to teach at Soledad High?
Mr. K: I like the small community atmosphere. I like the students compared to other places When I first started, I liked the administrators. I also likes the staff. It also gives me an opportunity to teach a variety of sciences.
AD: What is your favorite subject of science to teach?
Mr. K: I like them all for different reasons, but if I had to choose one it’d be biophysics. It’s sorta cheating because it’s a mix of biology and physics, but that’s what I’d go with.
AD: What makes Soledad different from other schools that you have taught at?
Mr. K: It’s an agricultural community. I find that most students here are very polite.
AD: You are also an author of a several books. What inspired you to be a writer?
Mr. K: I have written three books. I wrote a book about otters. My friend wanted to write book about otters after we went diving with otters. I also wrote an activity book about Goldilocks and the Three Bears.I didn’t like the original story, so I wanted to rewrite it into something more positive. It’s sort of a sequel where it is interactive and you can learn . I wrote a learning skills book I wanted to write to help students become better learners.
AD: What would you tell anyone who wants to pursue the sciences?
Mr. K: You need to go to the next level, which is college. Stanford and UCSC have great science programs. You definitely should go get experience in something you like in science. You can take on an internship. For example, you can volunteer at hospitals or participate in programs that are science related.
