What Are Seniors Up To Post-Applying

As the second semester commences at Soledad High, the most excited, yet nervous students, are most likely the seniors. Now that they have submitted their college applications, AD Campus Life Editor Maribel Ramirez interviewed a couple of senior students on their thoughts during their last semester as a Soledad High School Aztec.

Interview with Maria Zuniga

AD: How do you feel after submitting applications?

MZ: It is a big reality check point. I feel accomplished and eager to hear from colleges.

AD: Have you heard back from any of them?

MZ: Yes, I have from CSU East Bay.

AD: Which college are you anticipating hearing back from the most?

MZ: UCLA

AD: Do you feel prepared to begin college in the fall?

MZ: To my advantage, I have participated in various college experience summer programs, so I feel I am prepared to begin college in the fall.

AD: Can you tell me about any goals you hope to accomplish this semester?

MZ: A goal I have for this semester is to develop more leadership skills.

AD: Is there any advice you would give to upcoming seniors?

MZ: To not stress during college apps. Make the best of it and embrace any challenge or accomplishment.

Interview with Andrea Esparza

AD: How do you feel after submitting applications?

AE: After submitting my application, I felt a small sense of relief. However the anxiety is still there because you don't known whether or not you're going to get accepted to the college you want to go to.

AD: Have you heard back from any of them?

AE: Yes, a few states, but I'm really waiting for the UC campuses in March.

AD: Which college are you anticipating hearing back from the most?

AE: USC.

AD: Can you tell me about any goals you hope to accomplish this semester?

AE: This semester, I want to enjoy high school because college is going to be completely different and the friends you may have in high school may not be the friends you have in college, so you have to take advantage of your friendship while you can.

AD: Is there any advice you would give to upcoming seniors?

AE: Everybody says Senior year is the best year. In my opinion, senior year is the most stressful year due to college applications. Also just because it's your last year it doesn't mean you can goof off because it will come around and bite you in the butt.

Interview with Adriana Vargas

AD: How do you feel after submitting applications?

AV: Now that all of my college applications are submitted, I feel like this huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders! All of that hard work, of months trying to make the "perfect personal essay" have definitely been worth it. I can't wait to hear back from plenty of different colleges and universities!

AD: Which college are you most looking forward to hearing back from?

AV: I'm definitely looking forward to hearing back from Stanford & Santa Clara University, my dream schools.

AD: Do you feel prepared to begin college in the fall?

AV: I do feel like I'm academically prepared to be in college soon, however, I do feel like I'm not quite mentally prepared yet. Going off to college is going to be a scary, but a very crucial next step for me. I already miss my parents and I still haven't left yet.. although I do feel like I'm going to miss my dog, Spike, more than I'll miss my brother.

AD: Can you tell me about any goals you hope to accomplish this semester?

AV: It's barely the beginning of my last semester in high school, and I already feel like I'm catching a cold.. I think I may be catching some Senioritis. However, I know that i definitely want to stay motivated to finish the school year with straight A's again! Not only that but I want to spend as much time possible with my friends before we all go on our different pathways of life.
