Soledad Stuns Carmel
On Thursday night the Soledad Aztecs Boys Basketball team took on the Carmel Padres in their first MTAL matchup. If you were to ask anyone who they believed would come away with the win most would have said, Carmel. However, Soledad coming off a win against King City was fired up and definitely ready to compete.
Billy Hollman, who had a double-double on Tuesday against King City Mustangs, does it again against the Padres. The junior had 18 points and 20 rebounds, also in the double-double category is junior Beto Tinajero who had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Hollman also took the last 2 shots of the game to give the Aztecs the final dagger, winning the game 53-50.
The Aztecs led the whole game starting from tip off and although during the last 2 minutes of the game Carmel was mounting a comeback, thanks to some noise from the always loud Soledad High crowd, the Padres could not come up with the free throws to tie the game. It is clear that the Aztecs are here to compete in the MTAL and I am sure Coach Zapien could not be any happier with his young team.
