Shaky Start for the Aztecs
On Friday, January 6th the Soledad Aztecs (0-1) took on the Greenfield Bruins (1-0) for a home opener to kick off the MTAL 2017 Season. I spoke to Coach Hector Zapien before the game and all he had to say was “We’re ready for the season, ready to get the party started.” He and his players were fired up during pre-game.
However, as the game tipped off Soledad had appeared to be ready to fight, until the 2nd Quarter started and Greenfield began to make every shot. Sabian Jackson, the Center for Greenfield, completely bullied Hollman in the paint for the most part as he finished with a Double-Double. Only silver lining in this dark cloud game for Soledad was Isaac Lopez’s 11 points. Sam Caldera also knocked down a pair of 3’s and has continued to be a diamond in the rough for Soledad.
Going into this week’s game against King City, the Aztecs will need to address some of the key issues from their 39-59 loss to Greenfield if they hope to get any kind of party started and contend for the MTAL League Title.
