After Graduation: Senior Interviews
With so much talk of graduation and college applications, Aztec Daily Editor Maybelle Alvarez took the time to interview a couple senior students on their plans after high school. These are their stories.
Senior - Lori Camacho
AD:Do you have a plan after high school?
LC:During the summer I either want to take Hartnell courses while they still count me as a "high school" student or get a job.
AD:What is your dream school?
LC:My dream school is ultimately UC Berkeley.
AD:What makes UC Berkley your dream school?
LC:Berkeley has one of the best programs out there for computer science (my dream major) and it's in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley which is right where I want to be
AD:What inspired you to major in computer science?
LC:I've always absolutely loved math and I knew I wanted a career that uses it in some shape or form, and then last year, I was put in a computer science class and it turned out to be just what I was looking for
AD:Have you visited Berkeley before ?
LC:Yep, and I went around last May
AD:What did you think about the campus?
LC:I thought it was really pretty! There was a lot of nice grass areas and huge buildings and trees and squirrels
AD:Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?
LC:Graduated with a B.S in computer science and starting my second year at a big tech company
AD:Is there a certain tech company in mind?
LC:Last year, I was lucky enough to go on a field trip to Google and I don't know how far fetched it may seem, but having a job at google would be amazing
AD:What advice would you give to any upcoming seniors who are thinking of applying to colleges?
LC:Don't procrastinate your personal statements, write them in the summer because once school starts finding time is hard
Senior - Matt Hernandez
AD:What are your plans after high school?
MH:I plan on attending a 4 year school and as for baseball in college we shall see. I think it all depends on the workload and my major.
AD:Would you ideally want to pursue baseball in college?
MH:College on TV seems fun so I think I would
AD:What is your dream school?
MH:University of Pacific
AD:What makes University of Pacific your dream school?
MH:Beautiful campus and when I visited not so long ago everyone was very welcoming. They also have a benefit where they will help you get a job after you graduate. It's not like a normal university where you graduate then you are in your own. They actually care for your future there
AD:What are you planning to major in?
MH:Either English or Biology not sure yet
AD:What inspired you to major in either subject?
MH:English has always been so easy to me that I always thought why not try and major and do something with it.Biology is a major I need in order to get into dental school. I still haven’t made my mind between the two.
AD:Are there any other colleges that interest you?
MH:SFSU,UC Irvine and UCLA
AD:Where do you hope to see yourself in 5 years?
MH:I see myself graduating from a four year university
AD:What advice would you give to any upcoming seniors who are thinking of applying to colleges?
MH:START AT SOON AS POSSIBLE
