The Aztecs Saddle Up for CCS

This Friday, our Soledad Aztecs hosted the Division IV Semifinals game against the Gilroy Mustangs, who held the same 8-3 record. Nobody really knew what Gilroy had to bring to the table that night;however, the Aztecs grew quite confident after the first quarter with a 14-0 lead intact. This lead was obtained by Miguel Gonzalez(#1), Emmanuel Ortega's (#4) 19-yard run and the two extra-point field goals from Ulises Uribe (#6). In the second quarter, the Aztecs failed to get any points on the board, but their defense was able to put a stop to the Mustangs on their 2-point conversion attempts. This left the Aztecs with a lead of 14-12 at the end of the first half.

When the end of the third quarter came around, Aztec fans feared a loss, as the Mustangs held a 20-14 lead. During the fourth quarter, the Aztecs stepped their game up in hopes of being able to continue moving forward this football season. With eleven minutes left, Gonzalez's (#1) touchdown led to the Aztec's 21-20 lead over the Mustangs. Quarterback, Robbie Santa Ana (#11), also contributed to the Aztecs lead with his 7-yard quarterback keep, but the field goal was no good; leaving the score at 27-20. With only 5 minutes left in the quarter, the Mustangs were able to take it to the end zone, but thanks to the Aztecs mighty strong defense, the Mustangs failed to tie the game up. A failed 2-point conversion, that could have possibly tied the game, ended up being how the Aztecs prevailed in their 27-26 win.

The Aztecs will be moving on to the CCS division IV title game next Saturday, November 26, at 7 PM at Independence High School in San Jose against Westmont High School. Make sure to come out and support your Soledad Aztecs as they continue to make school history.
